Loving the flexible real estate lifestyle

Scott Hunt

One of the things I really love about working as a real estate agent and living in Torquay is the lifestyle flexibility I have. Sure I often have to work weekends and evenings, but it also allows me to be free to other things that a 9 to 5 job doesn’t.

I quite often take my daughter to school and pick her up. If the weather is fine we might grab and ice cream and go down the beach. Or shoot some hoops in the backyard. I can take time out in the day to go for a swim. My wife and I can take time out and head down to one of Torquay’s great cafes for a coffee. Or I can indulge in one of my favourite things; a walk along Torquay’s stunning beaches.

These are things that a 9 to 5 job often doesn’t allow the freedom to do.

Of course I am not talking about the old school real estate model where agents are expected to be in the office 9 to 5 AND work weekends. When I set up  my own real estate agency, I deliberately set up a model that allowed flexibility and freedom because I strongly believe that if agents are happier and more relaxed by living the lifestyle they want to live, they will be  more motivated and in a better frame of mind to provide a positive customer experience when they don the suit and enter into real estate agent mode.

For me, a real estate career (or any career for that matter) should not just be about how much money you make. Sure, we all want to be financially successful, and we can be. But if we are not happy with the lifestyle we are forced to live in order to be financially successful, then we will  not be happy within ourselves, our families will suffer for this, and the financial wealth becomes pointless.
