Julia Gillard's 'first bloke' makes sexist, racist blunder - what do you think?

Lisa Goodwin

I'm sure you would have all heard by now about Julia Gillard's partner's mishap recently, when he made a seemingly well-meant (and very public) joke, encouraging men to get their prostate checked, preferably by a 'small Asian female doctor'.

He has since publicly apologised, as reported in this article:  http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/new...

What do you think?  Do you think it was sexist and racist?  Or at least in bad taste?  Especially as this news has made it all around the world, shining a bad light on us seemingly 'un-cooth' Aussies??  After all, if our leader and her partner can't get it right, what does that say about the rest of us?  Or, do you think we are over-reacting, and that if this blunder has drawn more attention to men's health - in a laughable way that actually appeals to men themselves - isn't that a good thing?

Women, were offended by this ill-prepared joke?  Men, did it make you think more about your health? Or was it just a good laugh?

Would love to hear your thoughts.
